* 2019 in Review! *

Of course it’s enstars, what did you expect?

As not just the year but the entire decade draws to a close, it’s normally that time of year to look back on the games I’ve played and pick out some favourites. However, this year has seen me play a particularly pitiful number of games (I’m sorry ;~; ) so let’s look ahead to the next year instead!

I figured that I would lay out the first part of this post out as kinda “new years resolutions” & it’ll be fun to look back next year to see if I complete any (lol as if).

1. Get those Posts Out!

2019-10-16-191441

Ken ga Kimi may be one of the best otome games I’ve ever played but it’s not like any of my readers would know that because it’s taking me so darn long to get posts out lately. I’m going to cut the starry sky games down to mini-reviews because I think they’re putting me off writing? I also will eventually post about my Japan trip but it’ll mostly be an unboxing/haul post because I suck at photography – sorry! I hope to have these three posts up by mid Feburary at the latest & am aiming in general for 2 posts per month next year.

2. Go back & finish those forgotten games…

2016-03-27-234731

Why did I ever abandon this game, all the screenshots I have look fun?!

Yes, you read that right. All those poor games that I started & got bored with will be given priority to finish this year. Let’s start the decade right & give these games justice! The full list is:

  • Yunohana*Spring
  • Friend to Lover ~Fureraba~
  • Dance With Devils
  • Suuran Digit
  • Taisho x Alice Heads&Tails
  • Kenka Bancho Otome
  • Lovely Quest -Unlimited-

So not too many but still a higher number than I would like. I don’t really remember any of these games being particularly bad either so who knows why I dropped them.

3. Play Those Sequels/FDs

2017-06-25-232746

Another bad habit of mine is to play the original game, enjoy it, order the FD & then toss it deep down on my backlog. Not this year! I want to try and finish these before I *completely* forget what happened in the original game /sweat. The list is:

  • Amnesia Later x Crowd V Edition
  • Kud Wafter -Converted Edition-
  • Tokyo Yamanote Boys for V Fan Disc
  • Nil Admirari no Tenbin Kuroyuri En’youtan
  • Yuukyuu no Tierblade -Fragments of Memory-
  • Yunohana*Spring Cherishing Time
  • Dance with Devils My Carol
  • Ken ga Kimi Momoyo Tsuzuri

So after reading all that, you must be thinking “is she actually planning on playing any other games in the next year?!”. To be hopeful, yes, I’d really like to get through a couple more backlog games. I have a lot of galge on my backlog though so the blog might be a more 50/50 split of otoge/galge over the year. I hope this is okay!

I actually had a gross number of games that I’d bought but not added to the backlog list that have now been added. I will also finally be going through my drama CD collection & fixing the backlog for that too since I haven’t updated that page here for…years(?).

In terms of pre-ordering new games, I’m going to be following last year’s philosophy of not pre-ordering anything unless I want a shop set since 99% of the time it’s cheaper to pick up games a couple of months after release date. There’s actually not very much announced with a release date at the moment but I definitely plan on getting a shop set for Olympia Soiree given how hyped I’ve been for it! (The fact that most shop bonuses seem to include keychains may have also swayed my decision…)

The other upcoming Ototmate games that caught my eye were: Tokeijikake no Apocalypse, Spade no Kuni no Alice (the nostalgia!) and Piofiore Episodio 1926 because of how much I enjoyed the original game. I see Suou’s artwork in Dairoku: Ayakashimori and it just gives me BAW flashbacks even though the setting is completely different so I’m not too sure on that one. I’ll probably ending up getting Meiji Katsugeki Haikara Ryuuseigumi though since it looks fun.

Aside from Otomate, there are a couple of games I plan to get eventually such as Gensou Manege. Maybe I’ll finally pick up ports of ChouDoku & UtaPri AA/SS too. I’m even interested in Jack Jeanne despite my last experience with brocoli. There doesn’t seem to be too many games in development at the moment but I hope to see more as the year goes on and Nintendo Switch cements itself as the vita’s replacement for visual novels on console. It’s a really great console for the medium so I hope we continue seeing more great stories & characters well into the next decade & beyond!

In other news, I expect to see Hypnosis Mic continue its campaign of domination with the release of the mobile game in the spring (that I will probably end up trying despite the only song I regularly listen to from the series being “drops”). It really was everywhere when I was in Japan!

I also hope to see rejet announce some actual new titles (& maybe finish off that game they announced forever ago?), I’m not the biggest fan of their move into offering (in my opinion) over-priced “Deluxe” editions of their CDs so hope that doesn’t continue for much longer.

Anyways, sorry for the lack of awards post this year! If I manage to finish as many games as I hope then they should make a return next year. I hope everyone has been having a relaxing festive period & has a great new years! Here’s to a productive and fun 2020~
